About
Recognition of “The Korean Miracle” often overshadows the true state of the nation. While the country experiences its fast-paced development, its landscape is being chipped away at by construction projects, its cities are dirty and dreary, and its culture is in wane.
Korea come out of its stormy history as a strong player on the international stage, but the country itself still suffers from hastily thought out courses of action to achieve short-term goals.
Covering the Sky
손바닥으로 하늘을 가리려한다.
Putting your hand over your eyes will cause the sky to disappear for you alone, but the sky still exists for the rest of us. This Korean proverb highlights three important points:
- The need to come to terms with your past
- The need to be honest with yourself
- The need to address problems instead of avoiding them
Through this site, I hope to engage in a discussion on Korea’s problems and possible solutions to them. In no way do I mean to simply bash Korea. This is not meant to be angry rants, but instead useful criticism for getting Korea to realize its full potential as a beautiful and interesting country.
Perspective as a foreign resident in Korea
I understand that it is difficult to be criticized from an “outside audience”, but as a resident of Korea, husband to a Korean spouse, and father of Korean citizens, I feel that my opinion is more than justified.
